“Gee whiz, Wes. Aren’t you a grump-a-butt today? Is your Metamucil not working? You seem…ahhh…blocked up or something.”
Woah! Woah! Woah!!!
Don’t get all hostile and angry on me like that! While I admit I have always been full of it…I’m not any extra full of it today, thank you very much.
And by all means, celebrate your wins.
Remind yourself that the effort is worth the rewards and help inspire others to do the same…but…
Things are getting…
Scratch that.
Things ARE out of hand, and have been for quite some time.
Tech is out of control.
AI is out of control.
Social media is out of control.
Our nation is out of control.
Our world is out of control.
Few people really have their sh*t together.
Business and life is like Jiu-Jitsu.
More is usually not better.
Being exceptional at less is always better.
Yes, I said “always” on purpose.
In other words, don’t do 10,000 things. Do one thing 10,000 times so the world knows you are excellent at it. (Thank you, Bruce Lee.)
Yes, having multiple streams of income is fantastic…but you need to secure your first one first and ensure it’s solid.
Yes, having multiple takedowns and sweeps and chokes is fantastic…but you need to get good at one each, before you water your game down and confuse yourself and become everyone’s “easy roll.”
Yes, dating several supermodels simultaneously is fantastic…well, actually, I wouldn’t know. Now that I think about it, it sounds like having a headache in a nightmare wrapped in drama, drowned in guilt, and smothered in exhaustion.
Anyway, my point in all of this is to let you know that:
You are fine right where you are.
It’s okay to want more.
It’s normal to not know what your next move is.
It’s normal to hit a plateau.
It’s normal to take two or three or ten or 100 steps back.
It’s normal to make a wrong move and get kicked in the teeth for doing so.
It’s normal to meet a lot of scorpions along the way.
It’s normal to get stung by the scorpions because that’s what scorpions do, because they are scorpions. (See the scorpion and the frog.)
It’s normal to want to give up.
It’s normal to give up.
It’s normal to be ashamed that you gave up.
It’s not normal to ask for help.
It’s normal to find a lot of good people happy to help when you ask for help.
It’s normal to start over.
It’s not normal to understand that you’re not starting over. You’re starting with experience and a new fire in your belly, and more motivation and determination to not make the same mistakes again.
It’s normal to downplay your wins and successes. To brush them off, because…
It’s normal to compare yourself to the fake, phony, superficial blowhards that dominate our feeds today because algorithm and vanity and greed.
It’s not normal to keep the faith, stay the course, and endure.
So, forget the fake normal you see in your feeds and make the not normal your new normal.
If you know what to do, do it. Daily. Until it’s done.
If you don’t know what to do or if you don’t have the self-discipline to do it, hire a coach, join a community, create an accountability group, whatever, to help you find the track, get on track, and stay on track.
It really is that simple.
Not easy, but simple.
And simple is good.
But simple is not sexy.
Which is why you don’t see the thought leaders and influencers and goo-roos and internet bros talking about it.
Simple doesn’t sell.
Well, simple sells, but it doesn’t scale.
Well, simple scales, but it scales for you, not them.
And “them” want to keep you hooked and climbing, i.e., paying for,” their “ascension ladders.”
And there is always another rung on that ladder.
And maybe you learn something new on that next higher rung.
But sometimes…sometimes enough is enough.
Sometimes…it’s okay to stop climbing.
Maybe for a moment to enjoy the view and smell the roses…
Maybe for a few moments…
Maybe forever.
But only you can decide what enough is.
If you follow the noisy internet bros…you’ll never have enough…you’ll never be enough…your good enough will never be good enough.
That’s their dirty little secret.
They’re like drug dealers, these internet bros.
They know how to yank your chain.
They know how to push your buttons.
Follow the advice of Kimberly Wilkins, known as Sweet Brown, and ignore them because “Ain’t nobody got time for that.”
But I got time for you and can help you with both your BJJ and your Biz. Hit me up if you wanna talk.
Market like you mean it. Now go sell something.
