Woman Gives birth on Southwest Airlines Flight

by thesaleswhisperer on Mon

baby_boyOn December 4th, 2009 a lady delivered a baby boy on a Southwest Airlines flight.

Even though the captain decided to divert to Denver the baby still joined the mile high club!
A doctor and two nurses on board helped deliver the baby at the back of the plane with the help of flight attendants and an in-flight medical radio service. Both are fine.
How would you handle this:

  1. Charge her for a second ticket?

  2. Refund her ticket?

  3. Do nothing?

13 Proven Strategies

I’d give her free miles as a baby present and offer the parents and baby free tickets to any destination on the baby’s birthday. After all, she’s officially a Southwest baby!

Good point, Steve. I think I’d do the same.

Wes,

IF this happened on the following airlines:

United: Can’t happen. Flight was cancelled.

American: Lets see, thats a one way ticket purchased at time of flight $10000 plus baggage, $50

I think you give the crew an award, the nurses who helped get free tickets, the family of the child gets a scholarship
