CRM

A better way to follow-up using InfusionSoft includes their new “Interactive List View.” More and more clients are using InfusionSoft more like a traditional CRM, which means looking up contact records, calling them and then taking some sort of action such as: Adding a Note. Viewing their Note History. Viewing / Adding Tags to the record. Creating a Task and/or Appointment. Adding the contact to a Follow-Up Sequence. And/or just sending them an Email from within the Contact record. This new feature enables users to work through their lead/client lists faster and more efficiently and we all know that in order to grow sales you need to compress time frames. Another nice benefit of this update is that once you are done updating a contact record you are returned to the list so you can go right to the next contact. Previously you had to either update the list or [...]

Your List Is Your Secret Weapon.

by thesaleswhisperer October 14, 2009 Sales Coaching

Every day I hear: “We have 102 patents.” “We’ve spent 10 years researching and developing and testing this product.” “We’ve spent over $50,000,000 in R&D on this patented procedure.” “Our gizmo is the easiest to use.” “Our doo-hickey has the most features.” Followed by: “Sales are down.” “Morale is down.” “Turnover is up.” “Competition is up.” “Returns are up.” “Margins are down.” “My blood pressure is up.” To which I respond: “I know. And you want to know why? Because nothing matters until you master building your list. You build your list with a website that sells. You build a website that sells by mastering these 5 critical components: Graphics. Functionality. Content. Inducement. Opt-in Form. You must then market your presence / offer / inducement via every viable means including social media, direct mail, blogging, PPC, advertisements, even trade shows and Chambers of Commerce. You must then master the art [...]

Small Business CRM Lies, Myths and BS

by thesaleswhisperer September 8, 2009 Sales Coaching

98.76351% of small businesses do NOT need a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) because they: Don’t know why customers buy. Don’t know why customers don’t buy. Don’t know how to write. Don’t know how to offer an upsell. Don’t know how to develop and offer a free bonus. Don’t know how to build a list. Don’t know how to leverage social media. Don’t know how to leverage eCommerce. Don’t know how to ask powerful, relevant questions that make their prospects stop and think. Basically don’t know how to market. CRMs have become little more than an online calendar, address book and place to hold quotes that were created in a reactionary manner as they responded to an RFP that was created by their competitors with lock-out specs that guarantee the competitor will win. What small businesses need are tools to automate their marketing. Google will give you a free calendar and [...]

Salesforce.com vs. Infusionsoft as a Small Business CRM

by thesaleswhisperer September 2, 2009 Infusionsoft

Is Salesforce.com really a viable platform for a small business CRM? What does a small business – any business for that matter – need now more than ever? Sales! Not software. Not a repository of information. Not an online calendar. Not an online task tracking and generating platform. Sales! And where do sales begin? With advertising and marketing. With building a list. With creating a buzz. With generating word of mouth referrals. How do you do all of the above? You advertise and market creatively and consistently and you offer something of value to your prospects in return for them giving you their information. You then communicate with them in a manner and with a tone they desire so a relationship and trust is built and forged and crafted over a period of days or even months. But as a business owner you don’t get paid to educate. So you [...]

Bang Out More Phone Calls to Grow Sales. (Really?)

by thesaleswhisperer August 31, 2009 Marketing Help

The Great Lies of Sales & Marketing “Pick up the phone and bang out more calls today than you did yesterday.” ~~~ If you can still make money banging out calls then knock yourself out. But in my 14+ years of selling I am seeing this form of client development really diminish as an effective use of a sales person’s time. And if the return on your time investment is diminishing, the answer is NOT to spend more time doing it. That’s just dumb. Besides, unsolicited phone calls performed by product-pushing, commission-hungry sales people is just plain annoying! Today, when you hear a “rah-rah” guy on stage getting you pumped up to pound out phone calls, get thick skin, ignore rejection, “they’re not saying no to you but to your offering,” picture this: your son’s 7th grade flag football team lining up against the Dallas Cowboys with a great attitude [...]

Salesforce Automation Takes Preparation, Observation and Concentration

by admin August 29, 2009 Sales Coaching

The typical sales person cannot tell you what it takes to make a sale happen. If you ask them to define their sales process half will tilt their heads like my white lab, Decker, when my son’s playing his trombone…25% will say they “bond and ask open-ended questions” and 20% will just ramble aimlessly, tell a joke and offer to buy you a shot of whiskey and compare Fantasy Football rosters. The 5% that have learned to codify and systematize and automate their sales processes are the ones making all the money. It all starts with putting the science into the art of selling. (And don’t try to BS me into believing “sales people are born not made!” because I hate choking on my Coke and making the fizz come out of my nose. It burns and makes my eyes water.) Shakespeare seemed to make some beautiful pieces within the [...]
